Installing Solar Energy Into Your Home

Even though this sounds like a "how to" page, sorry, it isn't.  It's just the story of me getting a solar power system installed into my house.

Of course, the first thing I looked into was getting a solar hot water service, but the company who I first contacted didn't follow up on the initial enquiry.  Too bad for them - they lost my business, and I did more research and went for solar energy instead of just solar hot water.

When I started researching, it was surprising how many companies supply this service.    There were quite a  few to choose from, and to make it easier, I restricted my research to those suppliers who had online information.

Prices were quite high, but this can be offset in many cases, by government grants.   It's worth looking into this for your state.    The rebate in my case covered more than half the cost of the solar energy system, which was a great help.

Here's a link with a simple explanation of solar power - ok, it's written for kids, but it makes sense, and there are plenty of other links to follow from that page.     Also check out Solar Power Answers -  it's a very good site.

The system I installed is a 1kw size, which should supply the home with between 30-40% of its energy requirement.    A bigger one would have been better, but cost was a factor, and the rebate is the same whatever size you purchase.
