We just got back from a holiday in New Zealand and thought that the blackbird eggs would
have hatched by now.
Unfortunately, they hadn’t, and it looks very much as if the birds have abandoned
the nest, as they don’t seem to bother when you go near it now.    Perhaps the
neighbourhood cats were bothering them too much [...]

This week I discovered a blackbird’s nest, with a couple of eggs in it.   It was only about four feet
off the ground in my conifer near the study window. I don’t think the birds are going to be
successful in raising any young, because we have so many cats around here [...]
